The Eureka Reporter Recommends Voting Yes on Prop 11
The Eureka Reporter made its voting recommendations, urging readers to vote yes on Prop 11. The Eureka Reporter highlights how Prop 11 would give any qualified citizen the ability to apply to serve on the commission, and how Prop 11 ends the conflict of interest legislators have with drawing their own districts:
“This measure would take redistricting of the state legislature and the Board of Equalization out of the hands of the legislature and give it to a new Citizens’ Redistricting Commission. Any qualified citizen can apply to be on the commission…This is a state constitutional amendment and would end the inherent conflict-of-interest we now have, in which every 10 years, legislators rearrange district boundaries to ensure their own reelection, making it virtually impossible to have competitive elections.”
